122nd Red Kettle Campaign Kicks-off

The Salvation Army’s 122nd Red Kettle Campaign kicked-off today at the Lake Michigan Family Fare located at 2755 Lake Michigan Drive NW in Grand Rapids. The event began with an opening ceremony at 9:30 am with The Salvation Army Kent County Coordinator Major Bob Mueller and Spartan Stores Vice President Corporate Affairs Jeanne Norcross joining Grand Rapids City Major George Heartwell in ringing the first bell of the season. Following the ceremony, bell ringers re-located to Spartan Stores across Kent County.

Spartan Stores have been hosting bell ringers for eight consecutive years, but this will be the first year that they’ve opened all 25 locations for bell ringers on opening day. The Salvation Army will need to raise $1.7 million this Christmas season in an effort to meet local needs.
