The Salvation Army’s PeopleCare Program Receives $5,000

PeopleCare, an assistance program created by a 29-year partnership between Consumers Energy and The Salvation Army, recently received a contribution of $5 thousand as a result of a Consumers Energy Mastercard Program. The program includes a sweepstakes that encourages customers to set up automatic payments on their Mastercards to pay their monthly utility bills. $5 thousand was awarded to its winning participant, Chad Hamlet of Kingley, and another $5 thousand was funded to PeopleCare, which will be used to provide assistance to residents living in the Traverse City area.

Last year, PeopleCare helped over 10,000 Michigan residents with emergency assistance, including rent, food, clothing, energy and heating. During the month of October, Consumers Energy will be promoting PeopleCare by including a message on utility bills to 2.9 million customers. The message will allow customers the opportunity to donate a one-time donation of $5 or a monthly donation of $3 to be paid with their utility bill, with other payment options available at PeopleCare.
